Grey heron with frog...in Senegal
Hi All,
This is my first post for quite a long time as I've been doing fieldwork in Senegal (Djoudj National Park). This photo was taken while waiting to get a shot of a wheatear at one of my feeding stations (didn't manage that). Two herons appeared on the horizon, changed direction and came right towards me. It was only when I checked the image on the back of the camera that I saw the unfortunate frog. I've got others with both herons but this one shows the frog most clearly.

Canon 1D3
300 f/4 L IS & 1.4TC
ISO 400
1/1600 at f/6.3
AI Servo
Very slight crop to right and bottom.

Great shot, I can almost see the little crosses over the frog's eyes !

Great shot Adam. Sounds like you've been keeping busy with the fieldwork, did you find any Wheatears this time?

Dan.

Thanks for the comments, glad you all like my shot! It looks as though the heron has actually managed to spear the frog rather than grab it.

Dan - yes, I found quite a good number of wheatears this time!
