Canyon near Colorado Springs
This little canyon shall remain unnamed, though I would suspect that a few of you know it. Its very close to town, but seldom visited (at least this section is) and I'm fine with it staying that way. The trail is extremely steep, over grown in brambles and deadfall blocks the way in several places. But when you get past that the canyon floor is spectacular. I hadn't been down there in years, but was glad to see that it really hasn't changed. I didn't hike in the best light, but I'll go back down there when its better. And I'll definitely head down there in the fall to see the maples change.

I have some more from this trip on film, but it will be a couple weeks before I have that developed.

This time I found some small ice formations that had taken a very interesting form.

First a little cascade.

Some of the ice hanging from the branch in the shot above.

Weird detail in the ice (cropped from above). All the ice forms I found had these patterns in them.

Ice from a different area.

One last shot.

Very cool icicles, pardon the pun! Yes, I know the canyon. I photographed a golden eagle nest upstream from this spot over a 12 week period, on two different years. That was about 17 years ago, don't know if a different pair of eagles have found the nest site but here's a link to the nest photo:

I saw a Golden flying in the canyon, so I'm pretty sure they are still there.

Funny how you tell us about this spectacular canyon, and then post nothing but close-ups of icy stream...

I really like 3, and 5 is growing on me, too.

Those shots were on film that hasn't been developed yet.

I hiked it mid morning, so the light wasn't great. But I'll definitely be heading down there more often. I don't know why I hadn't been down there since I moved back.

2 and 3 are excellent - nice, tight ice and cascade. Cool!

Love those ice details, especially number 3--good stuff!

I really like the weird texture in #3...nice! I think I know where this is, as well...it's been a while since I've been there...another one to add to the list!

Can't wait to see more!
