I went out in search of waterfowl last Tuesday and found myself exploring Oakes Quarry Reserve in Fairborn, OH. As I hiked I saw a sign leading to a..coral reef??..in Ohio. I followed the sign and came to a little pile of rocks that wasn't very impressive. There was a display sign explaining this was a coral reef in an ancient sea that once covered the area. I then saw another sign leading to fossils. I followed that and found lots of evidence of the ancient sea bed. This was but one example of fossils in the area. All C&C welcome.
Great find, I love all the detail. Looks a bit soft, but that's probably either web compression or the library monitor. I like how you arranged all the different elements. I'll need to check this place out sometime!
That sure is different...and very, very interesting. Looks like a macro photographer's paradise; I can see a lot of interesting shots within the shot, though the variety you've captured here is fascinating in its own right.

Wonderfully different indeed! I thought I was looking at an underwater shot from somewhere outside the midwest, but this is just fascinating all the way around. Great find and nicely composed. One of the best reasons to frequent this forum is to get schooled up on all the great locations in the MW that members share here!

Very cool, Kirk. Thanks for sharing the location. As a former geologist, I'm always looking for stuff like this.
