Hi folks! There's been a fair amount of interest in various river trips on the forum lately, so I'd thought I'd throw this out there. I learned recently from the rafting company I work for that I can offer 20% discounts on any trip this season to new customers. We run trips in four states: the Middle Fork of the Salmon, Main Salmon and Selway in Idaho; Lodore, Yampa and Desolation Canyon in Utah, the Rogue and Illinois in Oregon; and the Tuolumne, Merced and American in California. Our Selway trips are booked this year, and our Yampa trips mostly. But all others have plenty of options. Schedule and prices are here: http://arta.org/prices_schedule.htm, but if you're interested, drop me a line before you call the office: frishmanphoto@gmail.com.
The shot above is the Middle Fork of the Salmon. I've got some more Idaho shots here, here and here. See also Desolation Canyon and the Illinois River. Our Idaho and Utah rivers in particular are world-class multi-day wilderness trips, and the surrounding areas also have a lot of gorgeous and seldom-photographed country.
For what it's worth, ARTA is one of the oldest companies in the industry and is a non-profit. Profits at the end of the year are donated to conservation groups and shared with the guides. Our style is laid-back, informal and participatory. Our guides are well-informed and tend to keep working for a very long time. This will be my eleventh season, and I'm by no means among the most senior. (I'm hoping ideally to work in Dinosaur in early June, then go to Idaho till late July.)
I'm by no means trying to take steal any interest from Grant's Yampa trip, which will be excellent and which I recommend. But if those dates don't work for anyone, or you want to see a different river, this year's bargains could be a great opportunity to float and photograph some spectacular country. Tell your friends!
