I've been using CS on my 4 year old computer, and last year I bought CS3, but I never got around to installing it. Now, (after the problems I had with trying to work on big images) I've decided to go ahead and get a new computer. (I've already got one ordered: Vista 64 and 8 GB RAM )
Question is: what do I need to do if I want CS4? Do I go ahead and put CS on the new computer, then put on CS3, and then (buy and) put on CS4? Any shortcuts to that?
(I work with big prints, and I'm tired sitting there waiting for my computer when I'm working on a 20"x30" print. I'm hoping this will help.)
I had this same question going from CS to CS3. You don't need to install either CS or CS3 as long as you have the keys. When you install the CS4 upgrade it looks for the file that contains the registration key for a qualifying prior version. If it doesn't find the file it asks you to enter the key. Just type it in and you are golden.
I just looked this up on the Adobe site because I have to go from CS to CS4. You can use the CS4 upgrade version to go directly from CS to CS4. It is cheaper to get the upgrade from Amazon than it is from Adobe.

Jim and Pete,
Thanks for the info!!! I hadn't started looking into the details yet because I just orderd my computer and won't get it for a week, so thank you very much. You saved me a bunch of dial-up time.
Pete, yeah, that's the same thing I want to do. If I'm gonna get a new computer (and a new monitor, too), I might as well go with CS4......
