In the Drift
Taken on Sunday in the Highlands of Scotland. The Ptarmigan are well on their way to their summer plumage. I'm amazed at how accommodating they are.

The cloud made the exposure difficult, even with +1 stop is there anything else you can do? Just wait for the sun to come out?

Thanks for having a look,

Chris

Chris - thats a lovely image - really like the soft light and spindrift. Like the relationship between bird and boulders. Wait for the sun? Nah, go with this lovely atmospheric effect - its more representative of what they do and the place they do it in. Not a crit, just curious - why vertical? (I ask because the boulders look 'interesting' compositionally).

I think this one is great, one of the best of a Ptarmigan I've seen. Its the weather that makes it. They deal with these conditions for days and the horizontally blown snow really tells a story. Great stuff :toast:

Thanks for the comments guys.

John, I'm really not sure why I went vertical. I did take a few horizontal but for some unconscious reason most were vert. This is true of just about every time I've been photographing these.
