Not a technically good shot with both birds half out the frame and the Coot also hidden behind a thick branch. However I thought I'd show it anyway as it wasn't something I was expecting to see.
I had just settled down near where I had been told the Grebes nest was, however I thought I was looking at the wrong one as there was a Coot sitting there. A few minutes later however and the Grebe returned to find the intruder and a stand off lasting several minutes began, with the Grebe calling out and the Coot occasionally stooping down as if getting ready to attack. Eventually, after a brief fight (of which, in my photo's the Grebe is unforunately obscured) the Coot retreated.
I have seen this many times when i lived in Switzerland,The Grebe would spend ages building the nest only to leave and a coot would come in to take up residence-Good interaction shot
