A very cold blue jay
Yesterday I hiked into the Wild Basin Area of Rocky Mountain National Park. It was cold. The wind blew. It snowed. Light was horrible. I shot and shot and came home without much other than a nice workout. I did spot this blue jay nearby as I was eating lunch. I suppose he was hanging around hoping for a handout, or he was just trying to stay warm.

Definitely like the plumped up feathers, sure does look a bit chilly! The bird is a Steller's Jay, not a Blue Jay by the way. There are Blue Jays along the front range at the lowest elevations, such as Denver, Colorado Springs, Ft Collins, etc, but they don't make it into the mountains. Steller's Jay prefers a mountain habitat but will venture down to the aforementioned cities as well.
