I have permits for camping in The Doll House for 3 nights (May 15,16,17) and at The Wall on May 18. These are in the Maze District of Canyonlands.
The permit allows for 2 more vehicles and 8 additional people. If any of you would like to join me, I would enjoy the company. This trip requires 4WD vehicles. I could carry one additional person in my vehicle, however, that person would have to meet me at the Hans Flat ranger station on the morning of the 15th.
If you bring your own vehicle, you can arrive later or depart earlier. We can stay together, or you are welcome to plan your own activities.
In addition to exploring the Doll House area, I plan a 9.3 mile loop hike from Chimney Rock, down Pictograph Canyon to the Harvest Scene, and then back out Pete's Mesa trail.
Before (May,14th) or after (May,19th), I also plan a dayhike to the Great Gallery in Horseshoe Canyon.
Let me know if this is of interest. This is my first trip into the Maze, so I am not an expert guide to the area.
Please note, after Saturday, I will not be able to respond until ~May 1.
Bill, I am very interested and may end up going if there is space available (I would bring my own 4X4). I just cannot commit this early, given my work responsibilities. I will e-mail you as soon as I know I can go (hopefully by early May). Thank you for the offer.
I did this trip last year with Darren and Kalin and it is AWESOME! I could definitely sit down in the dollhouse shooting for a few days. I'm not sure where the Wall campground is, but you should definitely go see the Maze Overlook campsite.
Bring extra gas. I was in 4LO alot in my wrangler partially because I was bottoming out the rear suspension with the camp gear. Low range ate up my fuel quicker. I had an extra 10 gallons with me. I probably would have made it from Hite to Green River without the extra gas, but its nice to have it just in case.
When we were there last year, they had recently graded the main roads in there, so I don't know what the normal conditions would be like. They were in very good condition for us. I don't think a shovel would be of any use in teapot canyon leading to the dollhouse though I do carry one in my jeep. A pair of leather gloves to move rocks would be far more useful.
Wish I could go. I'll be painting my house around that time. Have a great trip.

I'd certainly appreciate any other tips from the experienced Maze travelers.
The ranger suggested that I bring a shovel, in case I need to do some "roadwork"!
You have a spot if you can get away.
