I had a wonderful day visiting Graves Canyon this afternoon, even if I was soaking wet the whole time. The first one is of Forever Falls and the second is of Graves Creek Falls. That is what I am calling that waterfall anyway. You will have to excuse any photo quality issues, these were taken with a very very old 5mp point and shoot. I did what I could and tried to save the highlights in the second one.
Nice to see someone appreciates all the hard work I do, just kidding. I have finally figured this little creek out. It is very difficult to get around because crossing the creek is difficult. Well the solution to that is to hike in wearing tennis shoes and change into some water shoes once you get there. It was great today I got views I had never had before. I have defeated the creek!! Finally!!
Gotta love that early spring green...bet the ones on velvia will really be nice.
This area certainly has a lot of potential. I've been wondering if any of the folks coming for the gathering would be interested in exploring the Big Piney and Falling Water areas since the damage was so extensive around most of the Buffalo. Of course there are exceptions like Lost Valley and probably Smith Creek, but both of those areas were visited last year. Being further south, I think the wild azaleas and umbrella magnolias may be a bit further along too...
Yea you can't take everyone to the same place as last year. There is some real potential around the Big Piney and yet everyone seems to forget about it. Really you could hit Longpool, Graves Canyon, Haw Creek, Pam's Grotto and then Falling Water all relatively quickly.
I'm impressed at what your doing with a little point and shoot... Are you sure you don't have a D3X? If you're still without a bigger digital for the Spring Gathering, I may try to get my hands on a loaner camera for you.
Aaron that would be absolutely awesome if you could find a DSLR. I wasn't looking forward to ordering a ton of film and paying to get it processed. But if you can't it is no big deal I really don't have any problems shooting Velvia.
I've got an extra D200, but a friend was planning on using it... I'll try to either bring the D200 or a Pentax K20 with lenses. Also, let me know if/when you're in the market for buying a new SLR- I could get you a good deal on one since I'm a part timer at Bedfords.
Aaron it is a little funny the two cameras you mentioned. I actually have been looking at the D200. Best Buy has bodies for $600. I know it is a little dated but it has a good build quality and I have been shooting in a lot of wet conditions lately (I also landed on my old SRT at Petit Jean recently) so I really want something a bit tougher than my old Sony a300 I used to have.
My Dad has a K10d. I have used it and I like it, especially for it's price. I assume the k20d is very similar. I am almost in the market for something new. I need to put a few more bucks back.
Both are really nice captures Matthew. Both compositions are great. I really like the color in the first one an the highlights don't look bad at all on the second.
Thanks Ed. I am very excited to see how the Velvia shots will look.

That's a lovely setting Matthew, made all the better with the saturated foliage and new season greens. Well composed, thanks for sharing! Oh and good luck with your search, new toys are fun!
Thanks Wayne. I have the found the most difficult part of searching for a camera is finding the money for it. I am starting to get some funny looks because my current camera doesn't have an LCD screen on the back. Most people I run into can't believe I still shoot film. Something must be wrong with me.
This has a mysterious but pleasing mood. Nice work. Regarding equipment...I am still enjoying my D200 and find it keeps up with most of the pack as long as I keep it near base iso levels. I think $600 is a bargain for a camera of that build.
Thanks Lon. Almost all of my shooting it at the lowest ISO and I usually shoot in raw so the image quality from that camera should be fine. Yea 600 is a heck of a deal. I need to jump on it before they are gone. You can't hardly buy a d80 for that on Ebay.

I have these same shots on some Velvia, I can't wait to see how they look.
