Capture this Spoonbill this morning at Lake Martin Rookery, just outside of Lafayette, LA. Great place to photograph egrets, herons, spoonbills and other other wading birds. I shot everything today with high ISO to keep up shutter speed. Now I wish I had dialed it down to about 400.
40D, 700mm, f18, 1/800s, ISO 800, cropped about 50%
I have to say this is a bird I am not familiar with. Interesting

I'd love to see one of these in person, stunning! Daniel, I think you did a wonderful job showing the rosette spoonbill in it's environment and even got nice framing of your subject to boot! Well done, ISO 800 or not.

Beautiful capture of a unique subject.
Is the f/18 a typo? I notice you usually work at f/5.6 with your 700mm setup, which of course would have given you a lot more room with your shutter speed here.
Nice, Daniel. That pink is so gaudy the background, which would normally threaten to be distracting, is not even a factor! Thanks for sharing this capture.

Excellent job, Daniel. I have really been enjoying your birding shots, and the new lens has taken your pics to even higher levels. Of course, as Tim E. might say, "Even the best pots need a competent cook."

You've cooked this one well!
