This image of Zapata Falls was made on March 16th. It appears that since then much of the falls has melted. I moved to the right and eliminated much of the brighter areas of the scene making an HDR unnecessary. I did darken and lighten with PS CS3 in a few places.
The posterization really only is affecting the rocks, thats where Todd's hdr seems to have helped. The times ive shot Zapata ive used a 3 image blend (one for the bg, 2 for the fg) but wihtout the bright spot in back two would probably suffice. The ice might be slightly posterized, but i like the affect, gives it a smooth silky look, i like the color too. Its interesting seeing the different takes on the falls.
Zapata is a challenging subject for sure. I attempted this a few years ago when I first went to the digital side and did not have the PS skills I do now (still learning). I hope to get there again before the Ice melts. I will do what Stan suggests with mabe three images blended. Still nice efforts for both you and Todd Ken.
