I am still mourning our friends at Artists Showcase but decided to make a road trip to Greely yesterday to meet Tim Emerson of Duraplaq (970)-381-3421. I was very impressed with the facilities. His equipment is state of the art and the place is dust free. He gave me the tour of the facility (including some crazy lazer equipment that can cut out any shape you want)and showed me his current projects and samples of their work. My honest opinion is that their work is excellent. Good news is that the prices are also excellent. We talked about options for helping our group take advantage of his services and he mentioned that he has a place in Boulder and Evergreen where work can be dropped off and picked up and another in Southeast Denver/Aurora (aka: the Voninski residence). For now we'll see how this works out, if you would like to use his services you can drop off your work and pick it up from here. You'll just have to call me to schedule a decent time to drop off and pick up the work. There are no surcharges/extra fees for the pickup/dropoff services. I have several prints being done right now and asked how much it would cost to ship them back to Denver and his expectation was ~$30-40 which even with shipping makes it highly competitive. Their URL is http://duraplaqdistribution.com/.

Bill P and Erik (Erik I saw him doing stuff for you while I was there) can you speak to your experiences with Tim so far?

Everything I know about Tim (from others who've used him and from one meeting with him) is that he is very honest and does extremely high quality work. His staff seem to be very competent and friendly. On Monday morning I'll be heading down there to drop off a lot of big stuff and to take a tour myself.

I know i am not one of the "big names" on the forum but I have been using Tim for almost two years now (One of his original plaque customers). I have three walls in my house filled with plaques. Not only are his plaques great quality but i have seen some of his regular framing and those have been spectacular. He has the capabilities to do so many things with the laser that you really need to check his place out.
He is one of the easist guys to work with so if you are concerned about pickup/delivery give him a call and i am sure things can be worked out.
If you check out his website the prices are password protected so you will have to get a hold of Tim for access

Richie, I had a 30"x45" print mounted by an outlet in Loveland, that apparently uses Tim to do the work. In the future, I will be dealing with Tim directly.

I can say the quality was excellent. I really liked the satin laminate finish. It really kept the pop in the color for my glossy print.

Artist Showcase is kaput? Someone fill me in.

Im a little confused since $30-40 to ship to Denver is quite a bit more than the $12.00 that the other company was charging to both pickup and deliver back to Lana.

Jack, I'm assuming that involves building a crate and shipping via UPS or FedEx rather than the standard delivery through places like Rich. I'll find out on Monday. Lana is actually working with PictureThis rather than DuraPlaq at the moment, though I'm sure she would be happy to send stuff to Tim too.

Ken, Artist Showcase went under at the end of March. You can find a full thread on this here: http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/bbs.cgi?a=vm&mr=40961&CGISESSID=b6a0aa83d4abc85768f5ae9fb4bfe445&u=9134

Jack.

Duraplaq charges NOTHING to drop off and pick up from one of the places listed (Evergreen, Boulder and Southeast Denver/Aurora) which is significantly cheaper than the $12 fee. Tim (at his suggestion) is actually driving my work in his prius down to me next Thursday for a delivery run. Again - at NO CHARGE to me. Erik is correct the $30-40 was when i asked him how much it would be via some courier. Thanks for bringing up the point Jack sorry for the confusion. His care and concern to make sure that my work including the monster prints were done correctly was really impressive.

Thanks for clearing that up Rich and Erik. I'm hearing good things about both companies and I guess the best thing would be to give each a fair shake.
