Spoonbill in Flight
I have lots of shots to share from my trips to Lake Martin and Felsenthal, but this one goes with my previous post of a Spoonbill in a tree. They are something to see in flight. I know this image is not centered vertically, but I like a little more air underneath.

40D 700mm, f6.3, 1/5000, ISO 800, cropped about 40%, tripod & gimbal.

Hey Daniel, I have to say that is one of the ugliest birds I have seen in flight - But, What a great capture. The color and detail give a great perspective to the physical build of the bird. Well Done.

Merle - It Looks like the mascot of Dufus Airlines! However, they are great flyers.

"Dufus Airlines" ... I can hardly type because I'm laughing so much! Great description! :jump:

Ugly is right, but a very interesting bird. That color is intense. I'm glad you got a shot of that bird!

It just occurred to me that the Spoonbill's ugliness may be a defense mechanism. Perhaps predators look at them and think their just too ugly to eat!

My gosh, I'm glad Merle said it and it wasn't just me...But the light and detail is fantastic. Nice work with this Daniel, even if the subject was a little less than photogenic.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. This speciment may be the Clark Gable of the Spoonbill world! Too bad he looks like a rubber chicken with wings.
