I headed over to Toro Park just east of Monterey for a day of hiking and exploration with the family. I found some really nice lupine fields on some of the hillsides. This shot was taken right at sunset.
Well done, Derek. Toro Park has some wonderful areas for hiking and photography, as does the San Benancio Cyn loop (photography anyway, mostly private land), about a mile back toward Monterey, first bridge turn SW (left if headed for Mty). I hear there are some wonderful fields of wildflowers showning at Garland Park in Carmel Valley. The wildflower report from south county wasn't very promising, minimal rainfall, maybe later, but the west side of Naciemento/Ferguson Road (through Hunter Liggett to the coast) has some beautiful fields of lupine/poppy, most in the burned area. San Benito County is starting to show, take Hwy 25 south toward the Pinnacles and make the loop back through King City up 101 to the Peninsula.

Reno,
I actually called the San Antonio Mission ~ 1.5 weeks ago and they said the flowers weren't really showing that much yet. But they were 'guessing' it should get good in about 2 weeks. So we'll see. Rain is in the forecast which is really needed.
I want to explore that area near Ft. Hunter Liggett. But you mentioned the Fort to the coast was best. Is that section which was part of the burn area open do you know? Lets plan on doing a trip soon!
Very nice Derek, I prefer this to your ESS posting. The layered hills are really lovely. I could do with just a sliver more sky, and a wee bit less contrast on the lupines, otherwise a really great image!

You've managed to show a lot of depth here. I really like how the rolling hills fade into the the distance and the golden light scraping across the scene.
Nice series - sure looks like a great place for hiking with the family - and a little photography. I like the light here and the timing is just right, lighting the tops of the lupine. I really liked #'s 32 and 36 in the series.

Very nice, Derek, nice lighting on the lupine and I really like all the shadows along the hillside.

Here is one from around mid-day which is a bit 'hot' but I still like the color and visible display:

There was another spot I 'really' wanted to hike but couldn't get to becuase it was private - part of the Big Sur Land Trust:
