Although there have been a number of good and interesting posts this week in the Fauna gallery, one image clearly stood out and rightfully attracted a lot of attention. Marsel van Oosten’s image ’The Unfortunate Salmon’ is truly a jaw-dropping action photo that depicts the cruelty of nature, yet it does so in an artistic manner. Composition, lighting, animal poses, background, angle of view, and details such as splashing blood and water, all is in perfect harmony in this image. Like I said previously in my comment on his post; Marsel has outperformed himself once again! Therewith setting the bar very high for all wildlife photographers out there, including him.

A good runner-up for this week’s EP was If eyes could kill’ by Jagdeep Rajput. This well-titled image is all about the intensity of the eyes of the tiger.

The other honorable mentions for this week that are worth checking out, are:
-’ Tenderness’ by Nik Zinoviev. In his first posting Nik showed us that he is not only a photographer, but also a story-teller as he tells the sad story of a lion family in dire straits in a mesmerizing way.
- ’Marmot with a view’ by Floris van Breugel. A unique and colorful animalscape, and a good example of how to use wide angle (well that is if one considers 50mm as WA) lenses effectively in wildlife photography.
-’Spectacled Salamander’ by Rocco & Alessandra is a very well executed and pleasing photograph of a 4-toed salamander.

Thank you all for posting your magnificent photos!

I have really enjoyed reading these summaries about the pick in the Fauna gallery. What a GREAT idea. It adds a lot to see what the moderators were looking for, and why. I appreciate the time it takes. Thanks for all your efforts. It would be great to have this for all of the forums. I realize the time commitment that are already being made so it is just a friendly thought.
