Just wanted to find out whether anyone here has used Hahnemuhle Daguerre Canvas (or Hahnemuhle Monet Canvas) for making fine art prints. Any comparison with Breathing Color's Chromata White Canvas would be very useful. Also I would love to know any views on Hahnemuhle's Photo Rag matt medium (308gsm or 460gsm).
I have tried BC's canvas which is quite good. I would like to know/try some Hahnemuhle's products too.
I haven't tried the canvas, Ganesh, but I have used the Photo Rag 308 a fair amount. I think it's my favorite matte paper on my Canon Pro9000 (of the few I've tried - a couple of Moab, a couple of Hahnemuhle, and the Canon Premium Matte). The texture is subtle enough to suit a lot of images, and the sharpness and tone of the paper are great. Although I do more gloss than matte printing (and only for myself, friends and family).
I'm spinning off my first roll of Daguerre as we speak for some fine art gallery wraps. The client is ecstatic. These are some living reef photos he took while on a dive trip in the Florida Keys, and I am printing them (5) onto 16X24 gallery wraps for a collage on his living room wall.
If you have not checked out the Hahnemuhle Gallery Wrap system, log on to lex jet and give it a look. It turns what I used to find a bore into a perfectly finished gallery wrap in about 5 minutes. I'm selling the 16X24 wraps to my client for $200 each.
Regarding the 308 gsm, I use it if I am printing on matte. For the bulk of my work I have gone to Epson Exhibition Fiber, something I fell in love with at PhotoshopWorld last year. At 320 gsm I don't mount anything under 16X20. It clearly is not WalMart paper when your clients handle it. A tad on the expensive side though. Available in sheets only so no curly prints.
