Never had an opportunity to shoot Dippers until I spotted this one so got all my camo out and set myself up to get some shots. It's amazing how many people don't know you're even there with a bag hide on and amazing how many people that do..... I wonder what they thought of me!!!
Anyway, this is my first image of a Dipper which is hardly inspiring I know, but nonetheless I'm pleased for a first outing. They are quite hard to get decent images of with all that white and dipping around
techs: 1d2, 500/4 + 1.4x, tripod, 1/320th, 6.3, ISO 400, -0.33 (techs not great but wanted to get a few images in the bag whilst I had the opprtunity!)
edit: and forgot to say it's processed on my laptop and I've not processed anything for about a year, so no idea what it looks like!!!
I quite like this.
Dippers are being hounded to death at the moment around us and many phoographers have caused desertions by nest building birds. I have cases of these guys sat 15 feet from a half built nest and saying
"the bird hasn't shown for two hours!"
The snappers are in fact breaking the law. - but who cares ??
This bird looks quite relaxed which is nice.
Cheers

Well done on your first dipper!! you can see why they are so popular classic pose, lovely catch light in the eye, nits are minor for me as you have taken a nice photo of a beauitful bird, ref JR comment, 'l care' about the dippers i shoot at the 2 sites i go to, and i dont stand for any ' hounding' Well done graeme, go back and spend the day watching them and i can promise you when the day is through you will have a smile from ear to ear, good luck
Nice one Graeme - finally got one! Nice pose as well - processing looks a bit noisy but you've already mentioned that.
Re: JR's comments - it is indeed sad as these are such cool little birds and it makes me mad to hear about all this - I remember reading about the Derby sites last year - as yet I haven't heard of any problems down here in the SW thank god - don't know where John is based - up North somewhere? like he says ' I haven't seen them visit the nest for 2 hours' - SO BACK THE F%%% OFF THEN!
