I just found out that the sunday telegraph used this picture in last sunday's life supplement, and one of my kingfisher shots too, didn't get a penny for it and not a sniff of any credit.
I lay in wet grass for 8 1/2 hours one very dull day last year, just to gain the local voles confidence, I got home to find the camera was suffering from front focus, but managed to salvage a few shots.
The 1d has since been back to canon and is working fine now, I'll be looking for this years young over the next couple of weeks, I just hope my cheeky little friend made it through the winter, as I had one fun day.
Nice pose, cheeky little fellow! I'm sure if you printed this out on A2 and displayed it in the countryside, you'd have half the Owl population round pretty quickly :D

Just as a matter of interest how did they get the pics for the paper? Have you released them to anyone? It might be adviseable for you to mark your photos with a copyright in future.
There could be copyright issues here, and I am sure someone on here can advise you what to do next.
You know that they owe you more than a penny? Just bill the paper what you would normally charge and then take them to court if they don't pay. I sure you would not let anyone else rob you and get away scot free. BTW nice picture. Have a look here if you are not sure what you should be charging. http://www.londonfreelance.org/feesguide/phmagrat.html
You should charge extra for no credit.
Hello Danielle
Great image, and what an expression!
The paper hasn't got a leg to stand on, as Andrew says, just send them a BIG bill. The NUJ site is also very useful with suggested fees, and a guide price is £250 per day (which is what you did!).
Best wishes
Phil
Thanks for the replies, the image was provided to the nature reserve for inclusion in this years calendar, one of the wardens emailed it to the journalist that wrote the article, the article was supposed to be published last October, but was dropped due to the credit crunch.
The journalist was supposed to allow the reserve manager, to proof read the article before it went to press, this didn't happen and some of the article is inaccurate, they only knew it had gone to print when the reserve manager picked up his morning copy, he never even met the guy who wrote the story.
I have seen the email sent with the picture, and it clearly states I was the photographer the exif is included in the image too.
I have checked out the links given above, thanks for those, I am just starting out at selling my work and they have come in very useful, it say's add 50% for simultaneous web publication, which they did, here is the link for anyone interested in the article.
Mine are the vole and kingfisher images, I met Steve Kaluski briefly here last year, when he was after kingfishers, it's a great place for kingfishers, orchids and water voles, the above picture was taked at about 2ft from the animal.
A nice image.
Good luck with getting the issue resolved.

Regardless of the bit about the newspaper for me the thing is here the effort in time etc you made to achieve your image. It paid off and that is a great achievment not always recognised or considered by some. A great effort.
