I noticed there is no SW forum so I'm posting here... hope that's kosher  I travel tp Tucson on the 15th for a meeting. Rented an SUV so I can get out at dawn and dusk. does anyone know good internet sites that discuss good places to go to photograph the desert or have any advise? I've been there once, but don't really know the backcountry (or at least places I can get to in an SUV)... any help appreciated.

alright...ought to read more before I post....just ordered the photographing the SW: arizona guide... but still if anyone has specific sites in Saguaro NP or the vicinity I'd appreciate it. Also does anyone know what the spring bloom is like this year?

The Saguaro NP on East and West sides of Tucson for sunrise and sunsets; the Desert Museum in same area as West side Saguaro NP; Organ Pipe; Picacho Peak 60-75 minutes north of Tucson; Sweetwater; Reid Park; Tucson Botanical Garden; the artists' area around the Tucson Art Museum;Sabino Canyon; Ramsey Canyon are places to consider.

The wildflowers were sparse in March but the cacti blooms were worthwhile. Go to RMNP link and you will find some recent Tucson images

Gates Pass on the Northwest end of the city is beautiful with lots of Suguaros and wildflowers. It goes through a park called Tuscon Mountain Park.

The nice thing about Tucson is that even if you do only have early mornings and evenings, you can bird within the city or along the edges. We have a B&B on the east side of Tucson, right next to the east unit of Saguaro National Park, that's our favorite spring vacation spot. Either the east or west unit of Saguaro is great. Within the city, I like Tohono Chul Park, Sabino Canyon, and the Tucson Botanical Garden.

If you have an entire day, Ramsey Canyon or Madera Canyon would be great this time of year.
