Looks like an IDE, orange fins blue grey top silver side, they hang around in shoals too, dace don't have the orange fins, roach do but are a rounder fish.

Think I might have gropped some more water off the top and bottom, but a good action shot.

Pretty sure that's a roach, Jack. If it is in the uk, it is unlikely to be an ide unless it is an ornamental pool. On the continent, they could well be ide. Failing that I'd say chub. They are leaner than roach and can still have the red fins although their tails are black rather than orange as in this shot. Dace tend to have pale fins and don't grow much over a pound ever and are usually 10 oz or less. I have seen dace and even minnows do this before on the lower thames so I don't see why roach shouldn't do it. I would say that the activity is probably related to spawning, probably cleaning off in the well oxygenated water afterwards as they spawn in willow roots and the like in steadier water than this. Nice capture and crop with even the eye showing, which also suggests roach by the way.

This is something different. There are not much fishes around here, but this is also something special I think. Nice shot.

thanks for the comments all,

John i'd say they were all between 3 and 6 inches long,

thanks for the help in iding all i'm afraid it has made me even more confused than before but i guess i'll go with roach then with two votes

Concur with roach( Rutilus rutilus), head ,eye, fins ( colour) and dorsal position suggest it is .A chub has greyer fins and a gold eye. Rudd I doubt which has not been mentioned as these have redder fins. The roach spawn mid may on and these were, as many freshwater species, returning to spawning grounds . I wager the waterfall has been introduced in the last 12 months more detail here http://www.fishing.co.uk/species_display.php3?id=12. Great capture .
