First, here is the obvious link to the park:

Depending on when you go, Kingwood Gardens in Mansfield may be really good. I think their tulip display will be peaking shortly before Mother's Day, but check:

There is Malabar Farm State Park, although I don't know what it looks like this early in the year:

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary - I thought they were going to have an open house in late April or early May, but it doesn't seem to be listed on their website:

For something a bit different, a guy named Mark Hersman runs a box turtle sanctuary. You MUST contact him before showing up - don't even think about going there unannounced. He'll give a short presentation on the turtles, conservation efforts, and ask for a donation (he runs it out of his out pocket and it is not cheap). Here is a contact e-mail

turtleguy99@aol.com

That is what immediately comes to mind.

A few other things, depending on travel and/or the presence of kids and family, in no particular order:

Cleveland Zoo
Columbus Zoo
Cuyahoga Valley National Park (but it can be tough it yuo don't know what to look for or where)
Hale HIstorical Village (south end of Cuyahoga)
Amish country (around and south of Canton)
Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus (butterfly exhibit, but it can be hit or miss, don't use a tripod there between noon and 3:30 and don't even think about being there Mother's Day)
The Carousel Museum in Mansfield (small, but kind of neat)
The Old Ohio Reformatory in Mansfield (but photos are PERSONAL use only - they can be pretty nasty about selling shots from there)

If I think of anything else, I'll add to this list.

Tom - are you looking for things within Mohican park to shoot? There is a nice covered bridge, a fire tower and some nice waterfall/cave scenes, if they are not already on your list (along with the obvious lake shore). There is a nice walk and a gazebo at the main lodge/visitor center area with overlooks of the lake.

You might also want to head toward Hocking Hills/Old Man's Cave area...farther SE from Mansfield/Lexington area...but very rich in scenery.

Tom, there are some beautiful places to shoot right in Mohican. There's a great waterfall you can walk under and around but I can't remember the name of it as it's been awhile. It's a moderate hike back to it if I remember correctly. And of course you won't be far from Amish country, ie. Holmes County.
