Just thought I'd share a few shots from my explorations of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument last week. It was my first time venturing into this remote region and I can't wait to get back there again!

I'll start it off with the somewhat iconic shot of Metate Arch in the Devils Garden

The nicely glowing sandstone walls of Zebra slot

And finally...for something a little different...a ghostly tree in the Devils Garden

Wow, these are all amazing.
I am curious about the Zebra glow, which I've never seen before. Does it only happen at certain time of year, or is it a certain part of a day?
Thanks for sharing these. I would not mind seeing more.

Awesome shots, the Paria badlands and Zebra shots especially. Just curious, what are those rings in the bottom right corner?

Thanks guys.

Momo...as far as I know, it's the time of day that matters. I got there about an hour before I took this shot and waited for the higher sun angle to directly light the rock face above the slot better. Until then, the reflected light wasn't all that great. It wouldn't have been long before the far wall would be directly lit though, thus ruining the shot until the next day (or maybe later in the afternoon).

Jack...the rings you see are moqui marbles that have been embedded in the walls from the force of the flash floods (I believe). I sure wouldn't want to be caught in there for that!!

Cool images Guy! Makes me want to spend a couple weeks there.

I sure dig the Zebra canyon and Paria badlands images.
You've definitely rekindled my desire to revisit this area!
What time od day do you reckon you were in Zebra for the nice light?

John, it was a bit after 11am. That may vary by the season though. This is the first time I've visited the place.

Great series, Guy. I like the zebra shot and the great angle for the arch.

Wow Guy - these are all great. The ghostly tree and the badlands shot are my faves - but again they are all excellent!

Good series Guy. I really like the last image. I'd also try that one with the blue sky completely cropped out (4x5). #1 is a common view, but the shadows and clouds are really nice.
