Cliffs of Color
Just waiting for the spring foliage. Heres a shot from my backpacking trip this last fall.
Pictured Rocks they are.

Thanks for your time and comments.

Great shot, Anthony. I like the layers of water, rocks and trees at the peak of fall color. Were you on a boat when you shot this? Can you provide a bit more as to how this shot came about? I know it is not easy to get good shots of the cliffs from the north country trail, and if you did, I'd like to know how and where. Thanks for sharing this gorgeous image.

Great shot, Anthony! My rxn is that "I" want to do something a little different with this situation, but since I wasn't there, I don't know what was possible...

Beautiful color. I also would like to know the area since I'm heading to the UP this spring.

Thanks everyone
Brian and Philip- This shot is just south of Grand Portal point facing south. I did shoot it slightly off trail on a somewhat precarious edge. The trails run right along side of the water so it does offer some great views. I think some of the best views (or more unique views rather) would be at the water level near these cliffs. That however would require the use of a sea kayak, so if your an avid kayaker it might yield some stellar shots. It was my first time here so it was all new to me. I started at the coves area and worked my way to potato patch for a total or 7 days. I timed it just right for the peak season and it was just beautiful. It is a place you all should visit it you haven't already.

I have many shots from this fall so check ess as Im working on my website. Also the water was just beautiful shades of blue and green. Any other specifics please dont hestitate to ask.

Thanks for the info, Anthony, I really appreciate it. I've just been to the national parks web site and looked at a map of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The view from the point looking south as you described, is easy to locate. Chapel Beach road parking area, about mid-way on a 10 mile loop, if you're doing a day trip out there. No wonder you don't see a lot of pics from here!!

Thanks again, for sharing the beautiful image and for the additional details. I was in the UP last October as well, and it is indeed, a glorious place to spend the season,

Very nice Anthony, wonderful layers and I like the contrasting colors.

I hope to visit that area sometime this fall...

Very nice layering effect and colors, Anthony!

Wonderful fall color. I'm wondering, compositionally, about a bit more trees and a bit less water, but that's obviously to taste.

This was clearly in October some time...I'm guessing the second week of the month? When I was at Pictured Rocks last year (first week of October) there was very, very little color change (though the Hiawatha N.F. was in good shape).

Grand Portal Point is a long, long day hike with full gear. I hoofed it all the way out to Chapel Beach (via Chapel Falls/Chapel Rock) with all my stuff; it was roughly seven miles round trip.

Really nice. I like the color contrast. (I'm somewhat notorious as a high contrast advocate.). We may have unknowingly crossed paths. I was in the same area October 20-21, 2008 but moved West a little later. (See my post re Presque Isle River.).
