LARGER VERSION

Hi,

I came across this Roe buck feeding on heather shortly before sunset.
I spent a while photographing him from the opposite side with the sun behind me. He then moved behind a tall clump of heather with just his head visible so I decided to try and get to the opposite side of him for some backlit shots and to a allow a clearer view of him. Thankfully there was virtually no wind so I was able to do a large, full semi circle around him untill I was facing towards the sun.
I managed several images of him looking towards me and straight at me, but this was one of my favourites. He had heard a sound in the distance, hence the alert expression and forward pointing ears.

All comments always welcome and appreciated.

Hi Justin

Looks like you've nailed this species! Roes are probably my favourite species of deer and you've captured the essence of what makes them attractive subjects. Beautiful light - in what part of the country is this taken (I'm not interested in a specific location)?

Cheers,
Chris
