The lighting was obviously very harsh but in the circumstances its been held rather well.Very pleasing image mate .It will no doubt pull comment on the shadows and no catchlight from the purists , but i like it .Its composed well and the BG very good. Nice one .

Nice one Craig although you could have still got a fast enough shutter speed at a lower ISO IMHO although Swans look absolutely stunning on a nice sunny day it's not the best light to show them off at the best in a photograph. Given a choice, I think a bright, slightly overcast day is better as you don't need to work so hard to keep detail in the whites so the background looks less like a cave.
Thanks mark, i'm on here to learn, had a DSLR now for 6months,lens for 3, but from my last 2 posts i'm not in the 'click' and unless it's right in your face,in a pond,or you are 'one' of the lads' you dont get any comments, even if this photo was shit someone, somewhere could surely help out a fellow photographer in stead of doing what this country is famous for; 'walking by and not getting envoled' after a good gossip though, thats why this country is going down the pan because we dont help each other ,just stand back and moan, mock what we dont understand,i fought for my country and i'm no foul, i just want to take photo's and not get involed with all the 2 faced, backbiting i've heard/seen, i love nature-full stop, and want to get good at taking pictures to show others of the beauty we have all around us, some of you on here have been around for years, some not, but are'nt we all on here to learn and help each other :confused
Craig,
With respect, you want to step down from your high horse for a minute, take a deep breath and show a bit more consideration and respect for this forum and it's members.
From what I can gather you've not been into photography for very long and credit to you for the standard you've reached so far, but you've only been a member of this forum for little more than five minutes and slagging the system off and putting it's members down left right and center is totally out of order and uncalled for.
This is the second outburst from you in a week, the first of which was against a well-respected member who probably has more experience in photography than many of us combined.
I've been viewing this forum on a daily basis from the day it started and I've seen more moaning and underhand comments in the last fortnight than I have in the last six or seven years. We post images because we enjoy participating in a forum with like-minded people, we aim to improve our photography and we enjoy viewing the work of others. It isn't a competition to see who gets the most comments it's just a fun and educational place to hang out.
You've posted an image late on a Saturday evening and just an hour later you've posted the above outburst because people havn't dropped what they're doing to comment on your image.
People have lives outside of UKNPN and I'm sure people will be along in due course to offer advice on your image.
If you feel the feedback you're recieving isn't adequate then try asking specific questions and I'm sure they'll be answered in due course. In the meantime try having a bit of patience and a bit more respect for the community and it's members, many of whom have been supporting this forum for many years.
It's not often I get involved in disputes on the forum but I wanted to state my case as I find your lack of respect very insulting, not to me personally, but to the forum as a whole.

Craig
After your insulting remarks on my Owl picture ,you say on this post that things are "far too serious " ???on this forum . What a strange thing to say.
The state of the country (going down the pan )is really nothing to do with a nature photography forum in my view.
I fought for my country too , doing national service- I ordered ball bearings for tanks. Not exactly shooting people but quite important I though at the time. I cried too because I wanted my mum.!
I am not sure what you mean about a "click" as you call it or " one of the lads "but I think I get the idea. If you are on this forum just to get comments , which you seem to imply then it don't work.
Come on mate, lighten up a bit.
The pic looks ok to me but the reflection seems a bit odd with that straight neck line but then again they sometimes do.
Cheers

nice image, really like the low angle, think it might benefit with a bit more contrast so as to make the background entirely black, probably just me though
