Siskin at pool ( Not Bence style)
Its good to try new ideas but I think the simple approach such as just photographing the bird as it is in a completely natural situation ( and this one is )is sometimes more rewarding. Just to get them as they really are is sometimes good. ( You also know my views on low angle etc,)Each to their own.
Usual pool set up

I agree, and this is a good example. I really like the comp, pose and certainly the setting. Nice one.

Very nice John. The bird is well set off against the water surface too.

Like this John... the OOF foliage at the top frames the bird very nicely...

Great feather detail and clarity in this shot.
Siskins are such beautiful birds!

Well done!

John

As is every time for me too. A very nice shot. I have tried to emulate your set up through the window just awaiting the right visitors.

Thanks for sharing.

Hi John

Once again your water feature has come up with the goods in terms of species - as usual it is well photographed too.
If I had the verity of species visiting you evidently have I think I'd be itching to try different creative approaches, not necessarily the 'Bence approach' but maybe slow-shutter speed bathing at least.
Anyway, nice shot and as you say "each to their own".

Cheers,
Chris

Lovely shot, so much detail on the bird!

A nice shot. I agree with Chris though, with that much variety of species visiting I'd make the most of it by trying out some new approaches to how you capture them. Incredibly jealous of all your visitors!!

Thanks all
Chris
I have loads of slow shutter stuff due to bad light and most people say they would be nice a bit sharper !
I'll rake some out, but most are binned .

Lovely shot John, for your next creative challenge, you could try photographing the birds from under the water

Hello John

As you know I shoot very low and for me I like it so thats why I do it but here is a classic example of it working from shooting from a higher angle, it works and this is a very nice shot especially the way you have framed the bird with the foilage. Great shot.
