One of a pair of Red Tailed Hawks nesting right on Main Street in El Dorado, AR. This one is eating a gray squirrel just caught by its mate while minding the nest.
Now that I know they are nesting, I hope to get some more images in the next few days!

Well I guess a hawk has to eat too! Much to the chagrin (?) of the songbirds that frequent my feeders. You have a knack for finding nice avain opportunities Daniel. Thanks for sharing.

I love this shot. About a year ago I watched a red-tailed chase a grey squirrel as it ran across a field towards a lone oak tree. It was quite a site to see that squirrel moving left and right as the hawk pounced and missed, eventually the hawk did land on the squirrel though. Definitively something I will not forget, thanks for bringing back good memories.

Evidently the squirrels in El Dorado were not very adept at escaping threats from the sky, as both hawks managed to catch their own squirrel to eat.
