Just spent a cracking week with cracking weather in holland with Ed Kats. Holland is such a beautiful country with a wealth of birds. I went to texel first to try for the Avocets and they had not long arrived back so got plenty of opportunities for action shots. When Avocets are about to mate the female bows her head and the male struts around her, preening and flicking water at her with his bill. Then all of a sudden he jumps on top and it is as if he is shouting "wahay I have hit the jackpot tonight" very funny to witness

Typical Texel Avocet shot but none the worse for it!
Aggressive little blighters that see off even the Common Terns and BH Gulls that nest alongside them there.
I heard rumours from Peter De H. that they were considering building a second shingle nesting bank at this site if it is the lake I think it is. From May it is wall to wall photographers camped out - the second shingle bank was to relieve the potential disturbance concerns - is this true?

I'll second the positive comments Danny, excellent as per.
Nice light & well exposed. Superb action capture with a good background & nice comp.
What was in the background that has given the nice blurred blue strip.
A very nice looking image

Nicely done Danny,
I particularly like the contrasting beaks (open and closed ).
Nice one Danny..... well timed as ever... would however prefer a bit more room below (but that is easy to say after the moment and sat in a comfy chair infront of the computer)
Looks like you had another worthwhile trip, must see about getting over there sometime.....
