Get me out of here!
I've been going a bit stir crazy up here in Estes Park with the pressures of running my little business and little to shoot so I've decided to hit the deserts for a few days of peace, beauty and solitude. To help me get ready I went back through my archives to look at photos from a previous trip back in April of 07. Here is one image that I had never paid any attention to and now on retrospect I kind of like it. What are your thoughts? Don't worry I have very thick skin.

Erik, I like the twisted juniper in the foreground as it directs your eye to the formations.
Great cloud cover also. Have a good trip just got back myself two weeks ago.

Nine out of 10 photographers would agree that having a shot like this in their files would be a good thing. I'm among the nine.

Hmmm... Yes Erik, you have gone comptetly over the edge..."little to shoot" in RMNP??? Somebody call the guys in the little white coats! :jump: Count me among the nine as well. A very solid image

I'm among the 1 :jump:

Okay, okay, it's actually a pretty decent shot!

This makes me number 5 so count me in for liking it. I was there in February but missed seeing shots like this so now I'm envious. Great image Erik!

Erik.... This is a great shot. I really like the clouds here... making me think that this is a great candidate also for B&W....regards, Rajeev. :toast: :toast:

Count me as one of the nine too, the cloud cover really makes this pretty cool!. Have a productive trip to the desert, great time to visit!.

Love the clouds on this image Erik! All the colors work well together here.

The comp is just a little off for me. My first thought was that the tree was a little cut-off on the left,
so I wanted more of the space between the tree and the image border.

But thinking about it more, how about moving the comp so that the tree was much more cut-off?
Move the comp so that most of the dead branches are gone. That removes the tree from the
center of the image. Though that leaves a weird sized image. Just thinking out loud here...

Good luck in your upcoming trip!

I also like this...very nice, Erik! Where is this? I like the texture and color of the clouds and the contrast with the sandstone/desert.

Do we have 9 photographers who love it yet? If not, add me in! Very nice shot!

Sweet clouds! Add me to the "like" category. I'm leaving on Wednesday for my Utah/No. Arizona trip so this is also a nice motivation for me.

9 of 10, huh, well i revel in being in the minority

Seriously, my honest opinion is that the comp is fantastic, great balance of fg and bg elements. The sky is fine but unfortunately it left you with flat light, and i suspect this comp would have really shined wiht some nice magic-hour light. So, nice as part of a collection but as a solitary shot it wont blow too many buyers away.

I really like this photo, both in terms of its subject and composition. I would personally lighten the sky a bit, since it appears unnaturally dark. Great post.
