Dancing in the Wind

I headed over to Big Sur after work yesterday. It was really windy so I didn't know what to expect. When I arrived upon this scene the wind was so strong I could see it was sweeping across the hillsides in waves. The poppies, lupines and tall grass appeared to dance with the gusts. It was quite a site to witness.

So how do I capture this? The first thought was to wait in between gusts for the hopes of a still(er) moment. Na, I want to show the movement. I think this captures some of what I saw.

Lovely flowers Derek, did you try any longer exposures to really catch the motion, rather than freezing it? I wish I lived that close to Big Sur!

Thanks Floris. I am still suprised I can get off work and be in places like this in ~30 minutes. BTW, there are some interesting gov't projects out here. I don't know if you have a preferred location picked out already after you graduate or not. But shoot me an email if you ever want to talk about the area and some of the opportunities here.

Yeah, I plan to experiment more with longer exposures and wind. Here is one I took at sunset in Big Sur which several folks on FM seemed to like. Not sure about the length of time used (.6 secs):

It seems like this is something which could take many different renditions based on time elapsed. It is definately something I look forward to doing more of. Its fun stuff!
