One of my favorite places this time of year is the eastern gorge, so I tossed Jep in the car and headed out for a few days of camping along the river and hiking around the Dalles Mountain Ranch. As noted in other threads it’s coming along nicely, however while some areas are great, some of the best areas in prior years are so-so this year. There is still a lot of promise in the lupines, especially up high; hopefully it doesn’t dry out too much before they can peak.
The photography was cursed with cloudless skies in the morning, and ripping winds in the evening (and some of the mornings) . Regardless, it’s hard not to enjoy the beauty out there. Beware though, the ticks are doing well this year !
On the way back yesterday, the flowers were really nice in the switchbacks between Crownpoint and Latourell Falls.
Here are a couple of quick and dirty Lightroom versions of Jep.

...and moments later something (anything) far more important than photography needs to be studied.

The first one is great. He has that look of, "put down the camera and throw the ball already."

The flowers are looking pretty good out there!

I love these, John! Precious as can be. The color is great, Jep is cuter. Does he attract or repel ticks?
Ha ha. Great shots, John. Even if you might have been cursed photographically, at least the company was good!
The Lupine is just starting to bloom sporadically down this way, and I found a handful of nice Iris patches between Bandon and Port Orford - if you are still thinking of coming down. It's a bit early yet, but everything is coming along nicely.

Great photos. Your dog really adds something to it. He looks like a great companion!

From these two shots I would surmise that this is wonderful wandering country, and especially rewarding now that the first major crop of wildflowers are doing their glorious thing. I took my dog on a short outing in the Icicle gorge and pulled ticks off him for about 30 minutes after we returned home...

This ticks me off! I wish i had a dog to wander around with me..,..and this seems like a nice photo that would appeal to everyone, our pets. Nice job. :)

Geoff- Definitely attracts. I was a bit embarrased that I didn't remember to apply a tick preventative before heading out. Ticks aren't a problem around our yard, and I totally forgot that they might be a problem out there.
Thanks for the update Aaron. I'm still plotting, but will holler if I can work out a trip.
I really love the first image. He looks like a lot of fun, and the landscape around him looks great.

John - a tick-resistant variety of dog would be handy! My pooch is the opposite too. I wouldn't even dream of bringing him out to that kind of environment because with his hairier and curlier coat I'd never find all the ticks...
