I can't wait!
Mt. Evans road will be open in just a month. This is what it looked like at Summit Lake last year around the time the road opened. I am curious to see what it will look like this year.

5d, 28-135mm, f/16, iso 100, blah, blah, blah(you get the picture) Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, I hope you get the picture.

Comments and critiques always welcome.

You know what, I've never ventured up there, and am a little dissuaded by the fees now - But looking at this image I think I may try to get up there this year!. I really like the S-curve in this composition!.

Nice comp Morris! I am also anxious about the road opening. I love going up and photgraphing the wildlife...mostly the goats and pika :toast:

Great shot, Morris! And I'm with Nick on the fee issue. Total rip-off for the USFS to collect a toll for a state-owned, state-maintained road. Here's something to get your blood boiling:

Thanks Nick, Kurt, and Todd for the comments. It is definitely a rip-off and I will be watching the progress of the lawsuit. However, due to my health limitations, my days of hiking 14'ers are over. So Mt. Evans and Pikes Peak are the only options for me. I have to be able to drive up to the summit of these peaks to get a real mountain experience. So, sadly, I will have to continue to pay the fees. I try to get friends to go with me to split the costs. And we try to go more than just 1 day, as the fee covers 3 days.

Thats a beauty. Love the comp and color.
Been a while since I have been to the top. Did a nice hike from Summit lake to Chicago lakes a few years ago. Got pelted by nickle size hail on the way back up. I don't even want to talk about the lightning up there.

Very nice Morris! I'm looking forward to heading up there soon, too. C'mon Spring!!

If I recall right, they accept the "National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands" Pass up there. I used it last year and had no troubles, paid no fees. The pass is a relative deal as it is accepted a lot of places now, including out at the Maroon Bells area and of course all the wonderful NP's in the region (and there are so many that are easy to visit from Colorado). With this annual all parks pass and an annual State Parks pass, I rarely pay a fee to visit many prime locations.

For those who are interested, here's a link to the Interagency Pass from the USFS site: http://www.fs.fed.us/passespermits/annual.shtml

Thanks, Jamie, that is excellent.

You have one more choice. Find a photographer 62 or over with a life time pass as he gets a free ride through the gate. Of course he would expect some Sherpa duties in return. :jump:

Jamie is correct, the federal pass is accepted there. Although it's been a number of years since I went up and used my Golden Eagle Pass which is what it was called then. I would imagine most of us in this group already have the Federal Lands Pass based on all the photos I see posted from the all the National Parks.

Nice shot, Morris! I like all the curves. I can't wait, either. I don't have a pass yet, but was thinking of getting one. That covers all the parks?
