After a couple of nice warm days the weather changed again during my trip to Yellowstone last week. The temperature dropped, the wind picked up, and the snow flew horizontally. The next morning there were several inches of fresh fluffy snow. I tried a snowy forest shot here. It's a little different than what I normally shoot. Pentax K20D + DA 35mm f/2.8 Macro Limited. C&C always welcome.
Fresh snow is always a plus. I do find my eye wandering all over the image without a good spot to rest on and study though. Maybe the tree in the center, 2/3rds of the way back, would have been a good one to zoom in on since there are a lot of snow covered branches on it. Trees and tree trunks that don't hold snow usually serve as a distraction when snow is the reason for the photo so the emphasis IMHO should be placed on the branches that have held onto the white stuff.
I sure would like to see more from this visit! Snow really adds to the wilderness aspects of YNP.
Thanks for the feedback Don. I sort of had the same feeling about this image but couldn't put my finger on it. I was trying to use the "Z" of sunlight to take my eye deeper into the forest but I guess it didn't work too well.
The first couple of days were nice and warm so most of my stuff from this trip doesn't have much snow in them. I'll post some more images.
