Steamboat/Suggestions & Company
Every year, I visit Steamboat Springs during the first two weeks of July (this year July 4-17) for flyfishing and photography (while my wife quilts). I'm looking for some suggestions for new scenes and/or some company while shooting. Any suggestions? If interested in shooting together e-mail me, or give me a call in Steamboat (970-879-3775)

Meanwhile here is a cropped version of an image from last summer. I believe this is called the Sleeping Giant.

Nikon D70s (but now I have D300), f/8, 1/250 sec, ISO 200

I would love to go, but at that time, I will be catsitting for some vacationing friends. Nice image.

Patrick,

Your image is from the Elk River Valley and looking toward the foot of Sleeping Giant. I live in Steamboat (34 years) and have done a book---for a glance go to http://www.rodhanna.com/book.php, so I hardly know where to start. It's a great time of year to be in Steamboat! By your second week, the wild flowers should be really good on Buffalo Pass road and at Dumont Lake on Rabbit Ears Pass, and farther up the road you were on (CO 129), around Steamboat Lake---which also offers a lot of other photo opportunities, especially with either Sand Mountain or Hahns Peak above. Right outside of town Fish Creek Falls is worth a visit. A nice day trip is to the south of town on CO 131 through ranch land and then at the town of Yampa take the road to Stillwater Reservoir in the Flat Tops.

I'll email you with some more suggestions and please email me if you have any questions. I have relatives visiting at that time but I should have time to at least meet you for coffee or a beer to give you specific directions.

I probably ought to do a Hot Spots piece, I guess.

Rod
