It seems like every owl shot I see in Colorado is a Dave Showalter special. I can't recall all of the images but my favorite remains the one published in Outdoor Photographer with the tiny owls all over the tent.
The latest however, is Dave's shot gracing the cover of EnCompass magazine (for AAA members - easy Todd, there are 3 A's, not 2). Although Dave posted this shot on RMNP, it looks even better on the magazine cover.
Nice contract between the soft and fuzzy body of the juvenile owl and its seemingly out-sized and rather fearsome talons!
Congratulations Dave!

Congrats, Dave! I got my issue the other day and didn't even look to see who provided the photo!

CAZ, you are so right. I got my copy today, and I am astounded at how good it looks! Way to go, Dave! I've been getting that mag for many years, and I've never seen a cover on it this good.
Thanks folks - one of those images that would have been impossible with film. I discovered the owl at dusk and made the shot in very low light at 800 ISO. I was shooting with a 10 mpx D200 at the time - the camera had great low light performance.
