My first damselfly/dragonfly shot of the year, a newly emerged Large Red Damselfly. It's remarkable to think that the damselfly fitted into that small exuvia!
Andy, yes the game's afoot, great to see so many empty exuvia at one of my local sites - they must have been popping in their dozens in the recent warm weather. You're right about the exuvia in this one, it was stuck. The damsel had no way of removing it so after taking a few shots (OK, a lot of shots) I gently tried to free it. It wouldn't come off fully but I at least broke away the excess bits of the exuvia. Hopefully it will come off in time and it will at least be able to fly and feed in the meantime. It was the least I could do in return for some photos
