BARN For Sale, seller motivated
I drove over to Bickleton WA (pop. 90) on monday to shoot some bluebirds. The small town NE of Goldendale, touting themselves as "The Bluebird Capital of the World" does support a large population. I found this old barn on it's last legs at the edge of town and thought the character was worthy of recording. This is full size, had to clone out a house on either side at the tree line. I also would have preferred more canvas for better compositon but it wasn't happening.

Canon 40D, canon EF 17-85 @30
F/4.5 @ 1/8000 ISO-1600

Nice photo and good job on the processing. I'm curious as to why you chose such a high ISO and shutter speed and relatively wide aperture.

Greg, the settings were not really a choice, but overlooked. I had been trying to shoot birds several blocks away in some very strong and gusty winds and the settings to capture them, stop the moving branches and camera/tripod shake. I was still shooting in wind at the barn but not as bad and I just didn't think to adjust the settings.

Great photo and the barn is truly beautiful. I don't see a polarizer on this photo, but I guess if you could pull a dramatic b/w on red channel (assuming you used the polarizer), it would look even better...

It's a nice photo, but I agree with Cezar that it could be an even better B&W.

By the way, your title reminds me of the old National Lampoon parody of a small-town newspaper, with the classified ad for a house that was pretty much falling over, with the headline "This one won't last!"

This might be one worth coming back to in some nice evening or morning light. Its a cool looking old barn, but the light isn't doing any favors here. I think your composition is pretty good as it is now.

What Aaron said. Nice find.

The only thing missing is a bluebird on the fence!

Seriously though– this is a fun image. Amazing that any of it still stands. Looks as though the least puff of wind and it will just crumple. Cool shot, John.
