This grizzly was foraging near Roaring Mountain in Yellowstone last week. He crossed the road between me and my car so I didn't need to zoom in or crop too much! Pentax K20D and Sigma 100-300 f/4 + 1.4 TC. C&C always welcome. Thanks for looking.

He may be sniffin that bark, but he's eyeballin you!
This is really excellent!
Great light and exposure, a classic head and shoulders profile, blurred background, nicely framed by the tree, great detail and color in the hair and a bit of action. You even got a catch light in the bear's eye!

Wow. Opportunity crossed right in front of you and you took it! Great sharpness and as John mentioned that catch light is an added bonus. Nice job!

Holy Cow! I probably would have been too startled to maintain my composure! Great capture!
Great image! A friend of mine told me this guy was in the Roaring Mountain area. Looking at coming up in about 2 weeks. Have bear sightings begun to pick up?
Thanks everyone. Don, I've seen two grizzlies since the middle of March. I saw this one 4 or 5 times last week so I'd guess they're being roused from their slumber. I didn't see any sign of a sow yet as they would have cubs nearby. He attracted a lot of really BIG lenses. My little 100-300 looked mighty puny. I suspect there'll be some pretty good hunting next month. The weather will be improving also. I'm headed back on the 12th of May.

Forget the bigger lenses, Steve, this is a shot to be well pleased with! I love the way you have caught his eye giving you a sideways glance. Cliff

This is a great image!. As said above, the tree frames the scene, and the details in the fur are all there, and that catch light is really nice!.

Aw, stopping to smell the pine trees The expression is what this one is all about for me. Great capture showing his constant awareness and why they require space. He is beautiful.

Thanks for the update Steve. Were expecting our first grandchild in a couple of weeks. If I miss the event I'm in deep yoqurt. As soon as the excitement is over I'll be up. Maybe we can have a cup of coffee. Send me an E-mail if interested.
Again, thanks very much. I'm glad you're enjoying it as much I despite the extra laundry.
Don George, I'll send you a note.
Don Grall, not all the roads are open now. It'll probably be a week or two yet. Just Mammoth to Norris to Madison to Old Faithful, Madison to West Yellowstone, Norris to Canyon, and of course, Mammoth to Cooke City were open last week.
