Great Egret near Stevens, AR
Driving to Arkadelphia to pick up twin granddaughters, I found this lone Egret alongside the road hunting for frogs or whatever.

40D, 400mm, f5.6, 1/320, ISO 320. Cropped slightly to make 4x5 format

So how long have Great Egrets been wearing these Green Lantern superhero masks? Is this a recent thing to protect their identity as they fight evil? Seriously, before you started posting images of these birds I had no idea their face was green. This has several things I like. A simple uncluttered image. The S-shape of the birds neck and body. And a sharp image. One small nit though, you might look at cropping out the reflection down below. Or you might look at including it all next time.

Bruce - An excellent suggestion on cropping out the reflection. The image, as posted, was a full frame shot. Here is the much improved shot.

Incidently, the eye shade is one of the keys to identity during breeding season. Green = Great Egret; Red = Snowy Egret.
