Bixby Canyon Redwoods
Took a ride into Bixby Cyn (at Bixby Creek Bridge about 12 miles south of Carmel) yesterday, windy/cloudy and a little rain along the coast but very calm with filtered sunshine in the canyon. Beautiful lush green clover and ferns with a sprinkling of pale blue flowers mixed in with the clover; the nearby creek was flowing and the only sound in the canyon.

Reno, looks like it was a perfect day to be at this location. Got to love the light and all the green in this scene here.

Is this where that dirt road goes? I've always wondered. Drove it once in a rental but got a little bad so I had to turn around.

Nice exposure control on this one. Looks like someone chopped a few of those down.

Steve, the road drops into Bixby Cyn from the coast then winds up the canyon and over the hill south to the bridge crossing over the Little Sur River (not the Hwy 1 crossing) then up over another hill and finally exits on Hwy 1 adjacent to Andrew Molerea St Park. The drive is accessible from either end, north end at Bixby Bridge or south end at Andrew Molera SP. It's a good dirt road, passable with a 2wd car but may be a little tricky during the winter, especially after rain. The area was logged many years ago, there are still remnants of logging ops in some of the side canyons; I used to hike into the side canyons when I was a kid, manymanymany years ago.

Rene, the weather was perfect for this kind of shot. I like the forest floor, the top part is not as strong. Coastal redwoods are difficult subjects.

I was there on the same day. My wife and I were on the old coast road but only explored the first mile. We then returned to Hwy 1 and then continued on south to explore the Nacimiento-Ferguson road and then back to Point Lobos.

We need to return to explore the old coast road. I was a bit disappointed to learn that it is mostly through private property and difficult to get off the road.

I posted a Point Lobos shot above.
