wow - very cool! Thanks for the selection and the kind words.
Dave - yeah, I swing thru regularly. I just don't have many regional images to post any more, so I mostly lurk, occasionally comment, and always get inspiration from the magnificent work being displayed. Best forum on NPN!
Ditto kudos on the shot, Rick. I drove through that valley yesterday on my way back from Escalante country. No flowers to speak of yet this year, but they will come!
Don - I took that shot on April 17th (of 2005). That was an epic year for wildflowers - you may recall the reports from Death Valley and the southwest; it was quite an experience! Not sure what a typical year looks like, but I suspect the peak is past for this year.
2005, Rick? Aha! 2005 was the year of my South Rainbow Trail trip, and I DO recall an abundance of flowers. I think the desert bloom is probably as much related to moisture and temperature as to the calendar. As a point of reference, I have photos, taken in MAY of 2001 just up the road from yours, of floods of yellow flowers. I was en route to Escalante country, and that week became so cold and rainy I couldn't believe it. It snowed on Egypt Bench!
