Black-necked Grebe
Black-necked Grebes has been another species that I have wanted to photograph for a long time, I was inspired by Rob Jordans images some years ago as he captured the beauty of the birds so well. I will return to this site in Holland thats for sure in the next couple of years and try to photograph them with young. I was in the water to get this shot and my lens was only an inch from the surface which then gives this effect to the final image.

Canon 1DS MK11, 500mm lens 1.4x, F5.6, 1/200, ISO 200

Hi Danny,

Really very good indeed. Stunning colours and a BG to match the subject !!

Details in the blacks and the colour of that eye is sublime mate.

No nits from, a top class image.

Regards

Rob

Oh that is just magnificent! Now if only one of these would come to my pond...
Out of interest, how does the tripod/head stand up to submersion?

Great shot Danny, what has caused the straight lines running to the bottom of the picture from the front of the bird? Is it reflection? Just seems very straight.

Lovely shot though.

Hello Everyone

Thanks for the nice comments.

Ian the answer has to be NO because I am having terrible trouble with my gitzo which just keeps locking up and you have to be geoff capes to open it, it all started for me though with sand and salt water not a good combination, so clean it if you do take it in the water.

Brian the straight line/lines is just the out of focus ripples because the grebe was constantly diving hunting for food.

Danny,

I'm sure you've probably already done this, but in case you havn't, have you stripped it down, cleaned and regreased it. Very easy to do and puts it back like new.
