This is a link to a John Fielder photo from RMNP. I'd like to hike into that area and I'm thinking it is 10 Lakes Park or Paradise Valley area. Since his information isn't specific, I need a little help? Also, if this is 10 Lakes area, how difficult is it to get to?

Thanks,
Jack

Join the crowd! I always wanted to find that idyllic spot. My guess was the Paradise Park region. If that is the general area, it's closed to camping (outside of the Fielder permit). It's a LONG day hike, from the East Inlet trailhead. Probably best to set up a base camp along the main trail, and take some day trips. The RMNP hiking guide would be a great resource. I'm sure Erik will chime in.

I bet Erik knows (and I suspect Jesse is correct). Looks like an awesome place!

I'm fairly certain that this is one of the tarns near Wonderland back behind Ptarmigan Lake. I was there this past August and plan to spend more time back there this summer. I wasn't there at the right time and so didn't take many photos. This is a tarn close to the one I think is in the picture. Paradise Park is also a great area, but I had a look at my photos from the area from last summer and don't think it is there.

Send John a note I'm sure he will share the location.

There are a couple of tarns very similar to these that can be seen from Trail Ridge Road east of the Visitor Center above timberline. If heading east from the VC the road climbs then takes a left turn at the top of a half mile climb and there is a parking area right there. Look down and east of this parking area and you'll see a couple of tarns which if you walk the road about another 100 yards or so when photographed with a moderate telephoto will look similar to his composition, but I don't think it is the same area.

Oh man, that's a good one!

Don, it is definitely not those tarns. I'm almost positive it is the ones below Ptarmigan lake.

I took a course from Mr Fielder 4 years ago...that's what got me started in taking my photography to the next level, maybe I can get him to tell me but it's hard to get through to him. Erik, if I stop by your place sometime can you tell me how to get to Ptarmigan lake and is it an overniter?

Jack

PS. I really like that link to the spot in Indian Peaks, I'd like to go there also.

Jack, it is about a 6 mile hike in to that location with a bit of up and down in between. I'd be happy to tell you how to get there if you stop by the gallery.

John sent me a E-mail and said that Jack had also contacted him. It is as Erik says below Ptarmigan.
