So, late last year, I entered the Wisconsin Trails magazine photo contest, submitting three of my favorite Wisconsin landscapes images. Since you're allowed to enter up to five photos per submission, I decided to throw in one of my favorites for the "people" category, just for grins. So, guess which one was selected for a second place award? Yeah, the funny people photo - go figure! ;)

That's my father-in-law in the local pool from last summer.

Now, I'd encourage you to run out to your local magazine rack and buy a copy, but since most of you don't live that close to Wisconsin, I'll understand... ;)

Congrats, Tim! I think the pic is very cool, with a very nice composition and a very positive, happy summer feel to it. I can see why the judges loved it! Do you have an underwater kit for your DSLRm and if so, which one? Thanks for sharing the pic and the news! :toast:

Hi Brian,

Thank you very much for your kind comments - I appreciate them!

I shot this with a Pentax K20D, using an Ewa-Marine underwater housing. I don't remember any of the other tech details of the photo, and the file is buried on my backup harddrive. All that I can really remember about the moment is that the lifeguards called for a pool check and I asked my father-in-law to jump into the deep end with me for some quick fun shots. My in-laws visit most every summer from their home in Lithuania. My father-in-law is turning 70 in just a few days, so this is an early birthday gift for him... ;)

Tim, I love the story even more now that you've filled in the family details (and equipment info). I'm half Lithuanian myself - both maternal grandparents were born in Lithuania, emigrating just before WWI. Wish your father in law a happy 70th for me!

I hope you got him to sign a release.

Congrats Tim, it is funny how the images the artist likes are never the ones the public likes.

Congratulations! I guess there is a place for "snaps". I'm heading up to our family's summer place to open it up, this week-end, I will purchase and more than likely subscribe as I'm not familiar with this publication. Can't wait to get out of the city!! Good job
