Berry Creek Falls
I was talking to Benjamin (Ben) Glatt about this area in May and he mentioned it would be brown and w/out water. I was shocked, this one was taken in Febuary. Guess I'll have head further north for the redwood forests. That's pretty far from Southern California hopefully if I do make out there I can stay for a week.

Interesting perspective, Steve. I really like the dappled light. Not 100% sure on the water level, but I would say that given the drought we have had, it wouldn't be worth driving all the way up here and hiking the 14+miles to risk it.

That's ok Ben. I've seen it once already. My girlfriend just wanted to see the redwoods for the first time and I really liked that loop trail but was a little tired thinking I'd be back for a late breakfast and not returning until way later.

I just have this imagination that the further north I go from Los Angeles the more free flowing water there is. :frown:

It's been a rough year as far as rain here in the north bay. I we're about 25% below normal at this time of year. I went to Armstrong Redwoods SNR this past saturday and the creek was dry :frown:. I did the 12 mile hike that includes Berry Creek Falls, Golden Falls, and Silver Falls last year at about this time and I have to say that is one of my favorite redwood hikes. The water flow then wasn't too bad, but I'm guessing it's pretty lean now like Ben says

Steve - take her to the Sequoias for memorial day weekend, or thereabouts, and it'll knock her socks off (if she hasn't been). The absolutely giant red trees and the blooming dogwoods are more than a match for Redwoods. It's only a 4 hr drive.

I have the same apparently misconception as you do... I really want to see some green waterfalls too, but they're so far away! Nice shot you got here though

If you have the time consider the NorCal Coastal Redwoods. There is so much up there with Redwood NP, The gorgeous coast (Trinidad, Lost Coast, etc...) and then you are knocking on Oregon's door. And Southern Oregon has one of the most beautiful sections of coast in the PNW at Samuel Boardman SP. Between the Redwoods, Rhodendrums and coast you can't go wrong.

If time doesn't allow a NorCal coastal trip the Sequoias and Kings Canyon are another great option as Floris described. For waterfalls and Redwoods - Yosemite of course. Thats where I'm going next week.

Steve, I do like this shot but I wish that there was more light on the falls. Somehow the trees on the right are a bit too bright relative to the water.

I visited these falls last fall. I rode a bike most of the way up from highway one on the skyline to the sea trail. I only had to walk the last half mile. There was not enough water and too much contrast for a really good shot.

Steve,

I like this very much. The dappled light on the trees although it probably wouldn't hurt to burn down the area right of center and also the brighter spot in the LLC.

The framing of the trees makes it feel like it's a window view of the falls. Excellent capture.

Steve,
I rode most of the way into Berry Creek about a month ago. The falls were running nicely and it was very green. The wildflowers were in bloom and the redwoods looked great. I'm sure the flowers are well past peak now, but the falls are probably still running nicely. Its hard to say if it would be worth the trip from Southern California, but on the right day I would say it is. The mountain bike ride in from the coast is faily easy and doesn't take nearly as long as the walk. Its 12 miles round trip. Best Regards.
