Between the Rain +bonus*****
A simple falls shot in between rain on a wet day. Waded in as far as I could without getting the boys wet. The wetness added to the saturation here.

Thanks for your time and comments

I like the water flowing directly at you and the lush greens. Where was this taken?

Thanks Kirk, this is one of many falls at starved rock.

I gotta get back to Starved Rock before you guys get all the pictures taken. Like the shot would look great I bet on large flat screen.

Vey cool image Anthony! As said above, the water flow at you in such a large pool is nice. I find myself wondering what this would look like in a pano crop (3 to 1) or a partial pano (2 to 1 ratio). It would bring you a little closer to the falls and still keep a sense of vastness to large pool (especially with a 2 to 1 crop). I might also take a little off the top to rid of the scraggly weeds and focus on the moss covered rocks. Really a lovely image that has a certain calmness to it. The pano crops are a quick try and might spark something different in the image and may not work at all, but I find myself really wondering what it would look like.

Anthony, you did a very nice job with Illinois canyon's falls. I'm not certain how deep that pool is. I'll have to wade in w/o camera first! Excellent job with lighting as it's usually pretty dark down there.

Anthony- I thought of that too so here is quick repost. Let me know what ya think.
Kendall - Hope ya can make it down there but there is always something to shoot. I do find the park tricky in ways and It has to be the right conditions for shots to fall in place. I scouted some non- touristy areas this trip to gain some different perspectives. So I'll have to wait for the right conditions and be there.
Bruce- I really wanted to get closer but left my waders in the car b/c of weight purposes. My initial thought was to get behind them but I didnt even try. Plus my dog was with me

Nice capture Anthony, I like the cropped repost. Looks like a fun place to shoot.

Hey bud, i like the second image much better. I think you get a much better sense of motion in the water that leads you straight into the falls and makes you look around. You might try pulling the top down to just above the over hang to see if it works...it may not. Either way i think you have a keeper..it is understanded without bold colors and swift currents, but one keeps looking around within the image. Very Cool! :toast:

Anthony,

The pool is about waste deep, so getting beyond the falls would involve more of a swim than a wade. It is possible to get into the grotto behind the falls after a serious cold snap in winter by walking over the pond ice, but it's a risky thing to do.

Ah, the waterfall in Illinois Canyon.

I like the pano cropped version better; nicely done. Another option would be to go somewhat tighter, to eliminate some of the FG water.

I've never been entirely satisfied with any of my attempts to photograph this small waterfall...maybe next time I'm there I'll try going very wide and getting as close to the canyon wall on the right, from the stream area, as possible...

I like the pano crop a lot. The original had a lot of negative space at the bottom of the frame and the crop really accentuates the beautiful falls and surrounding cliff/rocks very nicely.
