Point Lobos Stairs
Canon 5D 17-40.

I find that Point Lobos is a difficult place to take good photos. The high contrast situations are tough even with overcast skies. The trees seem to soak up all of the light.

I did some contrast management on this shot by darkening the water and brightening the forest floor.

This was taken last Saturday on an overcast day.

Mike,

I live near Point Lobos and am trying to figure out which vantage point this was taken from.

I really like the curves in the stairs and the idea of the composition here. I am just not too crazy with the tree branches extending across the top of the frame in this case. Sometimes branches work more than others. In this case they seems to be blocking the shoreline or something and I find my eyes getting drawn to that part of the image vs. following the stairs and taking in the rest of the scene. I know it is challenging too shoot there and I am always looking for views around/between branches myself. I don't know whether a slight crop off the top would help in this case or not. Hmm....

Good effort, Mike. I too find Point Lobos to be a difficult photo setting;
although it is beautiful.

Derek,

This stairway is at Whaler's Cove. Park in the farthest parking lot and walk up the hill.

Mike,

Nice image. I think you did well to exclude the sky on a gray day like this. The curved line of the stairs works well to lead me thru the image and I like the framing provided by the tree.
