Only A Blackbird + Repost
Taken yesterday whilst out and about, back to work today :frown:

This is full frame.Cloned out a couple of bits of pollen or something from around his eye, otherwise untouched apart from resizing and framing.

40D,300mm +1.4 tc, ISO 400, f6.3, 1/1000 sec.

Nothing wrong with posting blackbirds, Fran. The males do present problems because of the colour of their plumage, it can be very difficult to get feather detail to show. Here you have plenty of detail, but I think that maybe the plumage should be a tad darker. I suggest that reducing the brightness a little whilst increasing the contrast slightly will increase the impact of the shot, whilst still retaining the feather detail.

Nothin wrong with blackbirds at all! Lovely shot with great pose and composition. I agree with Davids comments above. I really like the background giving some idea of surroundings, but still nice and smooth to make the blackbid stand out. Very nice!

Great setting and pose and i like seeying "every day" species portrayed as well as this.
Perhaps a slight levels and curves adjustment would improve this one.

Nice one Fran and nits covered. I might have had the bird on the RHS rather than so central in the frame but that's personal choice I guess. Was this taken through a window as there appears to be a couple of artifacts not quite fitting the BG and possibly a reflection..?

Good to hear from you everyone. I have altered the image by cropping as suggested, and stretched the canvas a little on the lhs. I also decreased the brightness a tad and upped the contrast a bit as suggested by David.

I did consider cropping it, and you have confirmed my thoughts, thanks.

Brett and Phil.... I have no idea what the artifacts are, as it was shot outdoors. The only thing I think it maybe is cobwebs in the trees, or, reflections from the cars either side of the bird from the carpark behind.

Thanks chaps,and Dawn

Hi Fran,

The tones in the repost are better as is the crop.

Cheers
