I've posted a couple of circular images to my portfolio http://members.photoportfolios.net/jim.bullard near th bottom of the first page and would like folks reaction to them. The images have also been modified with filters to reduce detail.

Jim - That link won't work (for me anyway)....here's one that will :

Jim's Portfolio

Anyway, I like "surface" a lot more than "edge". I think "edge" seem to feel more awkwardly cutoff, and doesn't flow as well. The circular part works better then for "surface" too because it seems to lend itself to moving around in the image more; And it gives a bit of the impression of looking into the water, like through a porthole or something.

I don't know if they would be better in a more standard format...I do like how they are presented.

Thanks for the heads up on the link David. I put a dot where I should have put an underscore. The correct link (I hope) is http://members.photoportfolios.net/Jim_Bullard.

More comments welcome.

Jim,

I like both of them. The circle presentation is different and you're literally stepping out of the "box." poor pun intended. They both have a pleasing abstract look, almost calming. Pond Edge is a little more realistic with the leaves/grasses at the bottom, but still flows nicely with the long blade of grass.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the white background, but then I don't know how you might print or present these in other venues. Still, an effective presentation.

Lon,

I had considered using a textured background (the white is a separate layer) but if I print them I will cut circular mats with openings that show only a small amount of the white, ¼" probably, around the circular image. In that case the mat would provide texture.
